Chris Stephens
Director
Glengarry Advisory Pty Ltd and Meet the Chiefs Pty Ltd
Glengarry Advisory and Meet The Chiefs are co-led by Chris Stephens and his business partner Greg Rudd. Chris has many years’ experience in Defence, international engagement, government relations and Industry.
He was a permanent RAN officer until resigning in 1989 to accept the National Executive Director position in a national sporting organisation during bidding for the 2000 Sydney Olympics. From 1992 to the late-1990s he was a consultant Project Manager advising private and public sectors.
In the late-1990s he was invited back into Defence as a member of the small team that successfully negotiated renewal of the Fleet Air Defence Training Support Contract with the RNZAF. Subsequently, he managed the Pacific Defence Cooperation Program in International Policy Division including oversight of the Pacific Patrol Boat Program. Then in 2004 he was appointed Director of Coordination for a Senate Inquiry into Military Justice for six months.
After attempting to retire he was seconded to the RAND Corporation in Santa Monica, California and Washington, DC as co-author of a series of high level Australian / U.S. interoperability reports until 2008. This continued part-time to 2010.
A second retirement attempt failed when Chris accepted the (promised to be) temporary position of Deputy Head Cadet Reserve and Employer Division later becoming its full-time Chief of Staff and Executive Director Plans, Policy and International Engagement; 2008 to 2010. He reported to (then) Vice Chief of the Defence Force LTGEN David Hurley.
From 2010 to 2019 Chris was a Senior Advisor to two Chiefs of the Defence Force and four Chiefs of Navy. He provided written and verbal advice on capability investment, procurement, governance policies and strategic risk. During this time, Chris represented Navy on the Foreign Investment Review Board, National Security and Critical Infrastructure Working Group.
All these appointments brought him into close contact with Ministers, senior staff, systems of government and Industry. Professional relationships that endure.
In early 2019 Chris started Glengarry Advisory Pty Ltd (ABN 47632422872) and Meet The Chiefs Pty Ltd (ABN 26640108425) with his business partner, Greg Rudd.
